Are there really ghosts?

Xiaoling: Granpa - do ghosts exist?
Granpa: Xiaoling, have you ever seen a ghost?
Xiaoling: I don't know what a ghost looks like, so how do I know if I have seen a ghost?
Granpa: I have never seen ghosts before, so I don't know if ghosts exist.
Xiaoling: My neighbour Daniu says that he sees ghosts every night when he goes home on the little path.
Granpa: Is he not afraid?
Xiaoling: He is afraid, but he says that if he does not go out, he will become one of them.
Granpa: How?
Xiaoling: Turn into a hungry ghost!
Granpa: Haha!
Xiaoling: It can't be that scary, because if they want to hurt Daniu, then they would not have to wait for so long.
Granpa: You have a point.
Xiaoling: Daniu says that they look like people, but have horrible expressions.
Granpa: There are beautiful and ugly people though aren't there?
Xiaoling: (nods)
Granpa: I believe that ghosts are like people, there are good ones and bad ones, kind-hearted ones and nasty ones. As long as you don't cause them trouble, then they will not do anything to you. Just like you Xiaoling, you have to learn the good things.
Xiaoling: Yes, I will Granpa. (sniffs) That sandalwood incense smells lovely!
Granpa: If you like it, I will bring some more next time.
Xiaoling: (claps) Hooray! That ball that you gave me, I really like it!
Granpa: That's good, do you want any other toys?
Xiaoling: No thank you, I just want to see you again soon.
Granpa: Yes, Granpa will be here to see you again soon. The sun is rising, I have to go now, you have to go home too.
Xiaoling: (reluctant)
Granpa: Be good now, go back!
Xiaoling: Goodbye Granpa!
Granpa: Goodbye Xiaoling, goodbye.

Tears glisten at the corner of Granpa's eyes as he picks up the things before the tomb and faces the rather unhappy Xiaoling to wave to her before walking away slowly. As the sun rises into the sky, Xiaoling also slowly disappears...
